On 16 February, ANVISA published in the Official Gazette Resolution - RDC N° 604/2022 which provides for the mandatory enrichment of salt with iodine, and wheat and corn flours with iron and folic acid for human consumption. 


This resolution does not introduced changes in the current rules, including minimum and maximum levels for the fortification of said products but complies all of them just in one resolution as part of ANVISA's ongoing regulatory review and simplification and corrects typos in the previous resolutions. 


In summary, the fortification of these products remains the same, being the following the amounts of nutrients allowed for this purpose: 



Resolution RDC N° 604/2022 also provides the specific substances to be used for the salt and flour fortification as well as, the corresponding rules for labelling purposes. 


This will be effective on 2 March 2022 and repealed Resolutions RDC N° 23/2013 (on salt fortification) and RDC N° 150/2017(on flours fortification).
