On 4 March, the Secretariat for Health Quality and the Secretariat for Food, Bioeconomic and Regional Development published on the Official Gazette Joint Resolution 32/2021RESFC-2021-32-APN-SCS#MS that updated the corresponding rules for salt in Argentina. 

In summary:

• It specifies the corresponding requirements for identity and quality of the salt, but also introduced the contaminant maximum level (copper, lead, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, nitrites and nitrates).
• The maximum level for sulphates was reduced from 1.4 % to 0.7%. 
• The list of permitted food additives is introduced. This is based on the harmonized regulation from the MERCOSUR trade bloc. 

It is worth mentioning that no changes on the salt fortification has been made.
