During June, it was file a legislative proposal that essentially seeks to promote and broaden the debate, as well as to clarify doubts about the labelling of plant-based food products that emulate those of animal origin such as milk, meat and meat products (hamburgers, fish, eggs, etc). This does not foresee any articles, but a call for interested parties to express their positions on the matter.
The proposal is based on the current legal vacuum for this category of products and the economic impact that these products are having on the animal products industry (dairy and meat products, among others), considering also the expansion of the market and the consequent level of sales that these products have reached over the last 5 years.
This is already approve and several interested parties have been included for the discussion.
It is worth mentioning that, during October 2021, the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) held a virtual workshops on plant-based foods seeking to develop the Regulatory Impact Analysis on the subject aiming to obtain elements for the identification and analysis of the regulatory challenge, its causes and consequences. So far, ANVISA has not published a result on this work.
