
On August 18, Law No. 21,362 was published in the Official Gazette, this legislation sets out the conditions for gluten-free foods labeling, advertising, and retailing.
Summary of the Law:
1) Manufacturers, importers, and distributors will be required to include a gluten-free label in products that comply with the provision found on Article 517 of the Sanitary Regulation for Food Products.
2) Processed food must be labelled ?gluten free? and must include a crossed-out wheat symbol at the front of the package.
3) Gluten-free packaged foods that have the previously indicated labels must be displayed in separate shelves by retailers (micro and small businesses are excepted).
The regulation will come into force 90 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
