On 16 June, the Colombian Ministry of Health issued Resolution 810/2021, establishing the requirements for the new FOP labelling to be implemented in that country: mandatory black circular seals with the warning statement "HIGH IN" for added sugars, salt/sodium, and saturated fats are to be included in pre-packaged foods that exceed the threshold for those nutrients.
The Resolution also introduces a "positive seal" of voluntary use promote foods that are deem desirable based on their nutritional characteristics (specific threshold are given). Companies have 18 months to adapt their labels.
Additionally, on 30 July, the Government launched Law 2120 on "junk food" which provides a greater legal weigh to the FOP labelling implementation in Colombia. Currently, the Ministry of Health is evaluating the possible impact this law would have on Resolution 810/2021, but so far no changes have been identified.
The new requirements established both in the Law and Regulation aim to make information more understandable and clearer for the average consumer.
