On 19 August, the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador notified in the official gazette the Ecuadorean Tecchnical Standard NTE INEN-ISO 23662 ?Definitions and technical criteria for foods and food ingredients suitable for vegetarians or vegans and for labelling and claims?, being an identical adoption of the ISO Standard 23662:2021with the same name. 


Although it is voluntary, those products intended to be labelled as vegetarian/vegan should comply with the rule, in addition to the mandatory requirements for food labeling foreseen in the national regulation. This applies to the food trade including the business-to-business communication (B2B).


In addition, in the same communication, the Ministry published other Ecuadorean Technical Standards on microbiological methods.
