INVIMA issued the latest version of the guides for the authorization of recycled plastics for food contact and re-use plastic packaging. The guides are the following: 

• Guidance for the authorisation application for materials, articles, packaging and equipment from recycled materials to be in contact with food and beverages for human consumption (ASS-RSA-GU064)

• Guidance for the authorisation application of plastic containers for re-use to be in contact with food and beverages (ASS-RSA-GU054)

Although these guides not introduce changes on the current regulation on food packaging materials, according to INVIMA, this updated refresh the administrative procedure for the authorisation application. This way the agency would conditionally approve: 

1. A range of recycled material inclusion rates, a range of container sizes or capacities and a range of types of food and beverages with which they may come into contact.
2. Changes on the color reference to give the material the same color to the packaging.
3. The use of packaging plastic resins technically equivalent to those submitted for analysis.
