The National Agricultural Health Service (SENASAG) issued Administrative Resolution N° 42/2023 that updated the Technical Food Labelling Regulation that applies for local and imported food products, including food supplements to be marketed in Bolivia.

In summary, the new text does not introduced significant changes on the rules foreseen in the previous version, but provisions already implemented by SENASAG that were not described in that text; thus no label adaptation is required.

Some highlight from the new version of the regulation:

  1. The legend for products containing caffeine is defined as "The recommended daily intake of caffeine per person is 200 mg".
  2. For the labelling of the same product that is produced in several plants or stored (imported products) in several warehouses in the country, a single labelling format may be requested for approval.
  3. The list of misleading claims was updated. The claim claim "100 original" was included.
  4. Provisions for the labelling of alcoholic beverages in accordance with current legislation have been introduced.
  5. The requirements for the completion of the online label approval process are described.
  6. For face-to-face label approval, it is clarified that the documents must be submitted in digital format.
  7. The application forms annexed to the regulation are updated.

This new regulation is already effective and replaced the version published in December 2017.
