On 9 September, the National Food Commission (CONAL) published a public consultation regarding proposed amendments to Article 1417 of the Argentinean Food Code (CAA).
This public consultation seeks to add to Article 1417 ?-hydroxy-?-methylbutyrate (HMB) and Beta-alanine (ß-ALA) to be used in food supplements with a maximum dose of 3 and 2 grams respectively. Previously, on 13 August, Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Resveratrol, Coenzyme Q10 and Lycopene were also added to the list of permitted ingredients in this category.
On the same date another public consultation was published by the sanitary authorities to extend by 365 calendar days the implementation of the new regulation for dietary supplements. This proposal is based on the fact that the new regulation for dietary supplements issued on 29 December 2020 (Resolution N° RESFC-2020-3-APN-SCS#MS) applies to all food supplements authorised in the National Register of Foodstuffs (RNPA), If approved, the new regulation would come into force on 29 December 2022.
These public consultation processes will be open for comments until 9 October.
