On 11 August, the National Agri-food Health and Quality Service (SENASAG by its acronym in Spanish), issued Resolution N° 425/2021 to ban the import and use of fipronil. This also established a MRL for this pesticide in foods from crops in which this substance is applied. It is worth mentioning that fipronil is a pesticide commonly used in several crops of interest for the food industry such as maize, soy, sorghum and sunflowers.

In accordance with article 5 from this resolution, the limit of determination of Fipronil in all agricultural products and by-products, imported or local, for domestic consumption is fixed 0.01 mg/kg which is the lowest amount established by Codex Alimentarius for this pesticide in some categories.

This will be enforced 605 days after publication, meaning that on 8 April 2023.
